High school football: Chestatee toppled by Dawson County in overtime despite monster day from Christian Charles

A career day from Chestatee quarterback Christian Charles was not enough to lift the War Eagles to a win Friday night, as they fell 45-42 in overtime to Dawson County in Dawsonville.

Charles scored on a 5-yard run and caught the 2-point try off a deflection with one minute left to give the War Eagles the 42-35 lead. But Dawson County came down and scored a touchdown with 10 seconds left to send it to overtime, then Caleb Bonesteel nailed a 24-yard field goal to win it in extra time for the Tigers.

Charles had a monster night, completing 24 of 41 throws for 389 yards. He threw for four touchdowns and ran it in for two more scores.

The War Eagles’ leading wide receiver was Seth Pressley with 12 receptions for 232 yards and a score. Caleb Carter chipped in 92 receiving yards for Chestatee.

Hunter Chambers rushed for 103 yards for the War Eagles.

After a bye, Chestatee visits East Hall on Sept. 13.
