The Flowery Branch High baseball team clinched a spot in the Class 5A state quarterfinals with a 10-0, run-rule win against Arabia Mountain in Game 3 of the teams’ second-round series Friday in Lithonia.

TJ Armstrong was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a double for the third-seeded Falcons (20-16), who claimed the series after splitting Thursday’s doubleheader. Flowery Branch won the opening game, 7-6, while No. 1 seed Arabia Mountain earned a 4-2 victory in Game 2.

The Falcons will look to upset another top-seeded squad when they open their three-game series against Veterans with a doubleheader at a time to be determined Wednesday in Kathleen.

In Game 3 against Arabia Mountain, Flowery Branch’s JC Sewell struck out six and gave up just four hits over five scoreless innings on the mound. Grant Lackey went 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs for the Falcons, while Anthony Grutadaurio (2 for 3), Connor Larson, Zander Sechrist and Kaleb Freeman each collected an RBI.

Lackey, Grutadaurio and Trace Merck scored two runs apiece for Flowery Branch.
