ATLANTA — The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (15-5, 3-3 ACC) used a 13-0 run midway through the first half breaking open a tie game and never looked back en route to a 68-42 win over Miami (11-9, 1-5) on Thursday night at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

The Lady Yellow Jackets dominated inside as they outrebounded Miami, 42-29, and outscored the Hurricanes in the paint by a 44-10 margin. Deja Foster led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points, all in the first half. She also dished out six assists. Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett added 11 points apiece, while Montgomery pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

“I was really happy how our team responded well tonight,” Georgia Tech coach MaChelle Joseph said. “I thought Deja was big for us early on. She stepped on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball for us and made some big plays. Sasha also had a very good game for us.”

Georgia Tech jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, but Miami roared back with the next eight points to take an 8-6 lead. The lead for the Lady Hurricanes was short-lived, however, as the Lady Yellow Jackets broke a 10-10 tie with a 13-0 run opening up a 23-10 lead. It was a 6:33 scoring drought for Miami that helped the Lady Yellow Jackets build up their lead.

Miami got as close as eight points, but Tech began to pull away late in the half and took a 35-17 into halftime. Tech held Miami to 21 percent shooting from the field, including just 3-for-20 from inside the three-point line.
Tech, meanwhile, shot 47 percent from the field and was 6-for-8 from the free throw line.

In the second half, Miami tried to get back in the game but never got closer than 14 points. Tech pulled away and pushed the lead over 20 with about 10 minutes left and cruised to the win.

The Jackets shot 53 percent from the field for the game, while holding the Hurricanes to 26 percent. Tech had 22 assists on its 29 field goals and forced 27 Miami turnovers.
