DURHAM, N.C. — Tristan English, Matt Gonzalez and Trevor Craport each hit home runs to help Georgia Tech beat Boston College 6-0 on Tuesday in an Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament play-in game.
Starter Brandon Gold and Matthew Gorst combined to allow nine hits in the shutout win for the ninth-seeded Yellow Jackets (36-20), who advanced to Pool A play and will face No. 1 seed Miami on Wednesday.
Gold (8-3) earned the victory, allowing seven hits while striking out five in 6 2/3 innings.
Wade Bailey’s RBI single scored Georgia Tech’s first run in the third, then Craport followed with a homer in the fourth.
Brandt Stallings added an RBI double in the sixth, while Gonzalez and English both homered in a three-run ninth.
Jesse Adams (5-5) took the loss for the eighth-seeded Eagles (31-20), who didn’t manage an extra-base hit and left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings.
