David Gomez hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 6.5 seconds remaining to give Tulane a 70-69 win over Georgia in the consolation round of the Rainbow Classic on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs had one more chance, but Billy Humphrey’s 3-point attempt just before the buzzer bounced off the rim.

Gomez led Tulane (7-4) with 24 points, Kevin Sims added 15 and Robinson Louisme had 12 for the Green Wave.

Jeremy Price led Georgia (6-3) with 22 points in his first career start and Humphrey added 14.

Humphrey put Georgia ahead 65-63 with a 3-pointer from the left corner with 3:42 remaining.

But the Bulldogs made just half of their eight free throws down the stretch and Tulane made three of their four field goal attempts to secure the victory.

Tulane will face St. John’s in the fifth place game of the Rainbow Classic on Saturday afternoon after Georgia meets host Hawaii for seventh place.
