ATHENS — Georgia took advantage of Auburn's worst shooting performance of the season to give the No. 5 Tigers their first loss.

Angel Robinson scored 17 points and Georgia beat Auburn 67-58 Thursday night as the Tigers made only 33 percent of their shots from the field.

"You can't win if you can't shoot," Auburn coach Nell Fortner said.

Christy Marshall had 15 points and Angela Puleo and Porsha Phillips each added 10 for Georgia (14-7, 4-2 Southeastern Conference). Ashley Houts had a career-high 13 assists with only one turnover.

DeWanna Bonner had 27 points and Sherell Hobbs had 11 for the Tigers (20-1, 5-1). Auburn's 20 wins to open the season was its best start since winning its first 28 games in the 1988-89 season.

Bonner made only 9 of 22 shots and Hobbs made only 4 of 12 shots. Auburn's poorest shooting effort before Thursday night was 36.2 percent against George Washington on Dec. 19.

"You've got to be tough when you go on the road," Fortner said. "When your shots aren't dropping you've got to get tough and knock them down when you're open."

Auburn was averaging 80.6 points per game before being frustrated by Georgia's zone defense. The Lady Bulldogs went to the zone after Auburn led 12-2.

"I don't think we relaxed with the lead," Bonner said. "Our shots just weren't falling. We kind of let that get to us. It kind of played with our mind, and they played great defense, of course."

Georgia shot 61.5 percent in the second half while outscoring Auburn 39-29.

Georgia, which lost five of seven from Dec. 5 to Jan. 8, has recovered to win five of six, including three straight. Two of the Lady Bulldogs' last three wins have come against a Top 25 team. Georgia beat then-No. 17 Vanderbilt last week.

"You still have to remain humble, even though we beat a No. 5 team," Robinson said. "This is just the beginning to me."

Auburn's loss left No. 1 Connecticut (20-0) as the nation's only remaining unbeaten team.

"We beat a really good basketball team," Georgia coach Andy Landers said. "They're really, really good. You don't get lucky 20 times and score 80 points. They're very athletic and good at what they do."

Georgia took its first win over a top 5 team since beating No. 2 Texas on Nov. 21, 2004.

After Auburn led 12-2, Georgia answered with a 10-2 run and trailed only 29-28 at halftime on a last-second basket by Robinson.

"Auburn being undefeated and being ranked, I think at halftime we said we're going to finish this, this sucker is ours," Landers said.

Georgia took its first lead since 2-0 when Robinson scored the first basket of the second half.

Puleo's 3-pointer with 7:34 left gave Georgia a 53-44 lead, and a steal and basket by Houts pushed the advantage to double digits for the first time at 55-44.
