The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-0 in the Governors’ Cup playoff opener Wednesday at Gwinnett Stadium.
Romulo Sanchez struck out nine Gwinnett batters in five scoreless innings to earn a win and give the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Scranton posted all three runs in the second inning when Colin Curtis hit a two-run single with the bases loaded, scoring Juan Miranda and Cody Ransom.
The G-Braves and Yankees square off again at 7 p.m. tonight for the second game of the series.
