With a first-round 69, Gainesville High’s Spencer Ralston surged to the front of the 16-18 age division of the Gainesville City Junior Championship on Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
Tied for second are his Red Elephants’ teammates Nathan Williams, the defending champion, and Lawson King, who both carded a 71 on Saturday. In the 14-15 age group, Christian Payne took the lead after 18 holes with a 75. Davis Weaver is second at 77, while Preston Trooper is in third (78).
Jackson Cross leads with an opening-round 72 in the 10-13 division. He leads by four strokes over Blake Parkman, while Joe Carter (78) is in third.
The final 18 holes of the two-day tournament starts at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Chattahoochee.
