Michigan State and Kentucky tied at Achasta

A pair of back nine surges on Tuesday afternoon have two teams, Lindsey Solberg and Caroline Power of Michigan State and Heather Lott and Liz Breed of the University of Kentucky, atop the leaderboard on the opening day at the 2nd annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship at Achasta in Dahlonega.

The opening round was an alternate shot format.

Solberg and Powers made four birdies on the back nine to pull into a tie for first place. Lott and Breed also carded a four-under-par 68 to tie for the low round of the first day.

The University of Virginia’s Elizabeth Brightwell and Portland Rosen shot a 3-under 69 to hold sole possession of second place after day one.

The University of Mississippi’s Haley Sanders and Katherine Fowler finished the day with a 2 under and in third place.
Tarleton State University’s Katy Ward and Sarah Fulfer held a one-shot lead over a pair of schools in the race for the NCAA Division II low round of the day.

In the NCAA Division III race, Central College’s Sarah Paulson and Ali Miller hold an eight-stroke lead.

All 55 teams, playing in a best ball format, return to action at 8 a.m. today for the second day of the Hooters Collegiate Team Championship.
