Local golf: Williams shoots tournament-low 64 to win City Junior Open

Gainesville High golfer Nathan Williams shot a tournament-low round of 64, including nine birdies, to card a two-day total of 139 and win the boys’ 16-18 age division of the Gainesville City Junior Open on Sunday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Williams finished three shots ahead of first-round leader and Red Elephants teammate Spencer Ralston, who recorded back-to-back 71s to finish with a 2-under par 142. Hunter Young and Robert Shaw finished tied for third with two-day totals of 147.

Morgan Reece, also of Gainesville High, won the girls 14-18 division with a two-round total of 161, including a second-round 79. She finished two shots ahead of second-place Allison Crenshaw and six ahead of third-place Ashleigh Bishop.

In the 10-13 division, Stephen Foernsler carded a second-round 72 for a two-day total of 142. Nick Lasseter and Ryan Hogan each carded 71s in the second round to finish second and third, respectively.

Christian Payne won the 14-15 division with a two-day total of 161, including a second-round 82. Payne finished two shots ahead of Davis Weaver and four ahead of third-place Brady Holcomb.

The Gainesville City Junior Open is a National Junior Golf Scoreboard ranked event.
