Local golf: Sykes manages hole in one at Chicopee Woods

Marty Sykes aced No. 5 on the Mill Course at Chicopee Woods Golf Course on Saturday in Oakwood.

He used a three iron from 186 yards to accomplish the hole in one. Sykes finished the round with seven birdies to go with the hole in one. He was playing with his father, Sonny Sykes, Dan Foth and Buddy Vetter. 

WEDNESDAY DOGFIGHT: Gregg Lee, Ron Melin, Bud Black and Gayle Gibson won the Wednesday dogfight event last week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Dan Arthurs, Len Kaper and Mike Simmons came in second.

Individually, Black was first overall, while Tommy Calhoun came in second. Yoshi and Bob Arendt tied for third place.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played an individual-flighted strokes game last Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Larry Cohan won the first flight. Bill Sutton and Eddie Johnson tied for second place.

In the second flight, Roger Miller was first, Denny Momper placed second, and Ben Brooks and Gary Palmer tied for third.

Closest to the pin winners were Roy Bartlett (No. 3 and No. 5), Johnson (No. 12) and Cohan (No. 17).
