Piedmont College baseball wins 5-4

Kevin D’Antignac had one hit, one RBI and one run scored for Piedmont College in a 5-4 win against Rowan University on Thursday in Demorest. Catcher Garrett Lovelace and second baseman Tim Nunez each had a double and an RBI for the Lions. Center fielder Tate Koons contributed with two hits in four trips to the plate for Piedmont, while shortstop Matt Youtsey went 1 for 4. Left fielder Kyle Davis and first baseman Curtis Cornett added one hit and scored one run apiece for Piedmont, and Josh Bailey and pinch runner Brad Stinson both scored one run.

The Lions host Marietta College at 4 p.m. Saturday.

LADY LIONS DROP TWO: Piedmont College softball lost 2-1 and 5-3 in a doubleheader against Rhodes College on Thursday afternoon in Demorest. In game one, sophomore Brittney Head tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and two runs, striking out seven to just two walks for the Lady Lions (6-6).

Symone Ball tallied two hits in game one and three overall for Piedmont, while Jamie Dennis and Megan McClain had the only other hits in the opening loss. Sophomore Courtney Clark led the Lady Lion offense in game two with a pair of hits. Sophomore Amanda Posey went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, only three earned, on seven hits and four walks.

Piedmont visits Maryville College in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.
