Young Harris College outscored Converse College by 20 points in the second half as the Mountain Lions broke open a close game at the half with a 69-46 women’s basketball victory over the Valkyries Saturday.
The Lady Mountain Lions improved to 4-0 and they return home Wednesday for a noon Education Day matinee against Truett-McConnell College in Young Harris. Converse remains winless in five tries this season.
Converse took its only lead of the game when Kayla Garrett connected on a 3-pointer 27 seconds into the game.
Young Harris regained the lead at 4-3 on a 3-pointer by Keta Robinette a minute later. That started a 13-0 run for the Mountain Lions as they took a 13-3 lead on two free throws by Tiffani Harrison with 12:51 remaining in the first half.
YOUNG HARRIS MEN 102, AUBURN UNIVERSITY-MONTGOMERY 86: Frank Adams and Vince Martin combined for 52 points as Young Harris College won its second consecutive game against Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday in Young Harris.
The Mountain Lions won their third consecutive game overall as they improved to 3-2, while the Warhawks slipped to 4-5. Young Harris opens Peach Belt Conference play next Saturday with a trip to Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla.
