The No. 16-ranked Brenau University softball team received an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship from May 17-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala. This is the Golden Tigers’ (39-14) second appearance in the tournament. They also earned a spot in 2009.
The current field is comprised of 23 automatic qualifiers based on their conference/independent/unaffiliated group tournaments, eight at-large selections, which were determined using the final top 25 rating released today.
The pool play assignments and schedule will be announced by 4 p.m. today.
LADY SAINTS CLAIM FIVE SPOTS ON ALL-REGION TEAM: The North Georgia College & State University softball team was represented well on the 2012 Daktronics Southeast All-Region team, placing five on the two teams with Melissa Dickie earning Region Pitcher of the Year honors.
For the fourth straight season, the Saints had the Southeast Region’s best pitcher. Dickie earned the honor after receiving Peach Belt Freshman of the Year honors a few weeks ago.
The Buford native is currently 20-0 on the season with a team-best 1.18 ERA. She tossed six shutouts and recorded 13 complete games. In her last outing against Columbus State in the NCAA Regionals, she threw a complete-game two-hitter against the Cougars’ potent offense.
Jessica Coan, Pilar Harden and Dickie all received First-Team All-Southeast Region honors, while Hilary Cox and Karlie Gillam were placed on the second team.The first team selections will move on to the All-American ballot.
