The University of North Georgia’s Shelby Hammontree was 5 for 6 from the plate in an 8-0 and 7-0 doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southwestern on Friday in Dahlonega.
Hammontree had a home run for the Lady Nighthawks (38-10, 17-4 Peach Belt Conference) in Game 1, while Sydney Sprague had a two-run shot.
Nighthawks starting pitcher Kylee Smith threw a complete game with five strikeouts and allowed three base runners.
In Game 2, Stephanie Hartness had a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Bria Bush, a Buford High graduate, allowed three hits from the circle to earn the victory.
North Georgia needs two more wins to get a No. 1 seed in the Peach Belt
The University of North Georgia’s Devin Gearhart went 2 for 4 in Friday’s 9-3 loss to Columbus State in the series opener in Columbus.
Michael Bell drove in two runs in the eighth inning with an RBI single for the Nighthawks (30-8, 14-5 Peach Belt).
On Saturday, North Georgia faces Columbus State at 2 p.m. in Columbus.
