Brenau University tennis All-American, Lyn See Choo defeated Mary Claire Slade (7-5, 6-2) to place first in the Central Alabama Invitational individual championships on Sunday in Alexander City, Ala.
Slade eliminated two Golden Tigers, Kate Mazackova and Eline Nagels, in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
Choo defeated teammate Hannah Thompson in the semifinal round (6-1, 6-0) en route to the final.
Choo and doubles teammate Kate Mazackova travel to the ITA National Finals on Wednesday in Mobile, Ala.
Volleyball team beats Toccoa Falls
Senior Audra VanArsdale set a new school record for assists as the Golden Tigers ran their season record to 15-6 with a four-set victory (25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13) over Toccoa Falls.
Brenau has now won six of its last seven matches and picked up its second win of the season over Toccoa Falls.
VanArsdale’s 55 assists broke her own record of 48 established in 2008, and she added five blocks, five steals, three kills and an ace to lead the way for the Tigers. The other two seniors, libero Maida Smajic and outside hitter Karen Green came up big in support of VanArsdale, with Smajic collecting 19 receptions and 17 digs and Green getting 16 kills, four blocks, three digs and two assists.
Brenau returns to conference play Wednesday with a home match against Columbia, S.C. at 7 p.m.
Golden Tigers shut out Reinhardt
Lauren Hagin scored the only goal of the match as Brenau defeated Reinhardt 1-0 on Monday for its sixth straight win and eighth in the last nine games.
Hagin scored off a double assist from Lily Futrell and Taylor Bates at the 32-minute mark of the first half. The Tigers (8-2-1) outshot the Eagles 9-3.
The Tigers will have a week to get healed up before their next outing Oct. 17 at Milligan, Tenn.
