Field goal boosts Jackson County to 38-25 upset win, playoff berth

Luis Sanchez's game-winning field goal with four seconds left lifted Jackson County past Morgan County 38-35 on Friday in Jefferson, sending the Panthers to the Class AAA state playoffs for the second straight year.

Jacob Lewis and Xavier Harper teamed up to lead Jackson County (4-6, 4-3 Region 8-AAA) to the upset win. Lewis finished 12 of 16 passing for 338 yards and four touchdowns. Harper caught all four scoring passes and finished with 195 yards on six receptions.

Lewis also had 39 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, and Malik Tuck had nine carries for 49 yards. Layson Giles added 123 yards on four receptions for the Panthers.

Evan Breakspear led the defense with 12 tackles and Jace Latty, Griffin McElvery and Chandler Todd each had 10.

Jackson County is the No. 4 seed from 8-AAA and will visit the No. 1 seed from 6-AAA, Blessed Trinity, on Friday in Roswell.
