When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: West Hall Middle School gym, 5470 McEver Road, Oakwood
How much: $5 general admission, $10 ringside seats
In times when some Hall County schools have had trouble just keeping office supplies in stock, West Hall Middle School decided not to go down without a fight — or at least a wrestling match.
Tonight faculty and professional wrestlers will enter the ring and get slammed to raise funds for their growing technology needs.
The event will feature about six matches pitting the pros against some of West Hall’s own teachers and Assistant Principal Tyrone Lucas.
“Our job is to get the kids fired up to where they want to come out and see one of us get slammed,” said Greg Kinsey, a sixth-grade social studies teacher. Kinsey and fellow teacher Jeff Williams competed to raise money from students. The one with the most cash will enter the ring tonight and get body-slammed.
“West Hall Slam” was the brainchild of math teacher Deloris Bagwell and her son, Justin Bagwell, a professional wrestler and former student at the school.
“The principal wanted us to brainstorm ways of making money because it’s really hard,” Deloris Bagwell said. “With all the budget cuts, there is no money.” All funds raised will go toward purchasing interactive tools for students to use in class, such as iPod Touches to record lessons online and interactive white boards for teachers.
The event at West Hall Middle’s gym begins at 7 p.m. and tickets will be sold at the door for $5 general admission or $10 for ringside seats.
