The Ga. 11/Winder Highway bridge over the Middle Oconee River in Jefferson will be reduced to one lane Monday through April 30 for reconstruction.A traffic signal will flash yellow to caution drivers using the bridge and signs will be posted as well, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.“Only one direction of traffic can cross the bridge at a time. When the signal is green, that direction of traffic can cross the bridge, opposing traffic will be held stopped by the signal’s red ball,” said Bayne Smith, GDOT district engineer. “Just do what the signal directs you to do and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.”The concrete driving surface of the bridge will be removed and a new surface will be poured, GDOT officials said. The contractor plans to work around the clock on one lane at a time. The bridge is one of three included in a $1.9 million contract awarded to Comanche Construction of Marietta.
