To help provide dog beds at the Hall County Animal Shelter, make checks payable to the Hall County Animal Shelter and mail them to Chris Latona at 2520 Shumard Oak Drive, Braselton, GA 30517.

The dogs in the Hall County Animal Shelter got a good night’s sleep Friday.

Each of the large dogs in the shelter got a dog bed and a bone donated by Chris Latona of Braselton.

Latona started collecting money from neighbors and local businesses after she found out the dogs in the shelter slept on concrete floors in their kennels.

“That’s kind of heartbreaking,” Latona said.

She collected $2,700 to buy beds from a man in Charlotte, N.C. The beds came in pieces, so Latona and her family assembled them and brought them to the shelter Friday.

“We have enough beds for all our larger runs,” said Gwen Trimmer, the adoption specialist for the shelter. “We’re just really excited.”
The dogs took to their new beds right away.

Animal Control Director Mike Ledford said all the dogs were laying on them as soon as they were put in the cages.

Latona said she hopes to raise another $2,500 to buy beds for the shelter’s small dogs.

“We still have only reached half our goal,” Latona said. “We still need to do more fundraising to raise money for the other 88 beds.”
Trimmer said when animals are comfortable and relaxed, they are less likely to get sick.

“It’s just not good to have them on a cold floor,” Trimmer said.

“While they’re here we want them to be as comfortable and as cared for as possible.”
