The Gainesville man charged for driving under the influence in a crash that later killed a Lula councilwoman now has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Joshua W. Armour, 23, of Gainesville, crossed the center line in his Honda Accord when traveling eastbound on Joe Chandler Road on Jan. 10, according to Georgia State Patrol information officer Franka Young.

The Honda driven by Armour collided with a Toyota Sienna driven by 57-year-old Lula councilwoman Vicky Chambers, causing her to suffer a critical injury.

Chambers died Thursday after spending a couple of weeks in Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s intensive care unit.

“The investigating trooper has secured a warrant to charge Joshua W. Armour with first-degree vehicular homicide,” GSP Sgt. Anthony Coleman wrote in an email.

Armour was originally charged with use of safety belts in passenger vehicles, failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence.

The toxicology report was not yet available for Armour, Coleman wrote.
