A student at the Alpine Psychoeducational Program was charged with battery after throwing a chair at two school staffers, police said today.

Gainesville Police Lt. Carol Martin said police were called to the school on Woods Mill Road about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Martin said two female teachers were trying to control a 12-year-old boy when he picked up a metal and plastic chair and threw it at them, hitting them in the legs. The teachers had some bruising but declined medical treatment, Martin said.

The child was charged as a juvenile with battery and taken to Hall County juvenile court, then the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, Martin said.
