Look for a couple of wet days ahead heading into the weekend.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today after brief heavy rains hit Wednesday night.

Nearly a half-inch of rain fell in Gainesville during the evening hours, as recorded by the NWS automated station at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport.

Forecasters say another quarter to half-inch of rain is likely today, with the chance extending through tonight and into Friday. Rains could be heavy again Friday, with cooler temperatures in the high 70s.

The weekend looks a little better, with the chance of storms down to 30 percent Saturday and 20 percent Sunday with warm temperatures.
