Slaying happened during drug deal, police say
Leshan Tremiele Tanner

A Gainesville man charged with felony murder allegedly committed the crime during an apparent drug deal, a Gainesville police spokesman said.

Leshan Tremiele Tanner, 42, is accused of shooting Cedric Antonio Huff about two weeks ago off West Avenue in Gainesville. Huff died of his wounds Saturday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

“Mr. Tanner did commit the act of murder while engaged in the possession or purchase of drugs and did intentionally shoot Mr. Huff causing death,” Gainesville police Cpl. Joe Britte said.

Tanner appeared Monday in Magistrate Court and was charged with one count of felony murder. He was assigned a court-appointed attorney, but he declined the offer.

His next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. July 17. His is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail.

According to police, Huff was shot in the abdomen June 5 at a residence in the 300 block of West Avenue. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and underwent surgery. He was pronounced dead Saturday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy.

“The investigation ongoing,” Britte said.
