Rabid skunk comes in contact with dog in Clermont

A rabid skunk made contact with a dog recently in the 5600 block of Clarks Bridge Road in Clermont, marking Hall County’s second confirmed rabies case of 2018.

The skunk was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur, and Hall County Animal Control was advised that the skunk tested positive for rabies.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid skunk was located. Those who live in this area or see an animal acting abnormally in the area are asked to contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during nonworking hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies.
