Rabid bat reported in Sardis area

A rabies case has been reported on Woodlane Road in Gainesville.

A rabid bat made contact with a dog, and the bat was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur. Hall County Animal Services learned Friday that the bat tested positive for rabies.

This is the fourth confirmed rabies case this year in Hall.

Signs will be posted in the area where the bat was found. If you live in this area and see an animal acting abnormally, call Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or Hall County Dispatch after hours at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville.
