Tony Cornett received a majority of votes in Lula to secure the city’s District 1 council seat over his opponent Mike Hinton. Cornett came away with 58.60% of the vote to Hinton’s 41.40%.
Who he is: Cornett is a cyber security professional with a vested interest in Lula’s community.
How he reacted: "First, I would like to thank the people of Lula for believing in me and taking the time to cast their vote for me. I would also like to thank my lovely wife Amy, for her support and sacrifice throughout this process as we did not approach this without prayerful consideration,” Cornett said. “My opponent ran a great campaign that kept us on our toes, but in the end it appears my message resonated clearer with the voters here in Lula. I look forward to working with the next session of council members and empowering the citizens of Lula by giving them a strong voice, regardless of which district they reside.”
On the issues: Cornett has pledged to work to “strengthen Lula’s commitment to small business” through more direct lines of communication with the public, to identify needs like infrastructure and utility improvements, “guide development,” address pedestrian traffic concerns and provide guidance for regulatory and compliance matters.
What’s next: Cornett will be sworn into Lula’s District 1 Council seat in 7-10 days.
