Gainesville police continue to search for a suspect they believe robbed the Shell Food Mart on Friday night at West Ridge Road and U.S. 129.

Following the robbery, officers and a K-9 unit attempted to locate the suspect, described as a black male with dreadlocks, approximately 20 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches in height and weighing about 200 pounds.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect and the investigation is ongoing, said Kevin Holbrook, public information officer for the Gainesville Police Department.

Holbrook said the suspect entered the store around 9:45 p.m., pointed the gun at the cashier and demanded money before fleeing into the woods behind the QuikTrip across West Ridge Road.

Ahmed Tharani, owner of the store, said the suspect stole more than $600.

Tharani said the suspect had been in the store two or three times before returning and demanding money. He said video surveillance recorded the incident.

The same Shell Food Mart was robbed Aug. 13.
