The Gainesville Police Department is on the lookout for a suspect they believe attempted to rob the Shell convenience store on Monroe Drive in south Gainesville Monday night.

Sgt. Kevin Gaddis of the Gainesville Police Department said that at around 10:30 p.m. the store clerk was entering his vehicle after closing for the night when a man approached with a gun and ordered the clerk back in the store.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black shirt and black pants, a black hat with a short bill, black gloves with the fingers cut out and a shirt covering his face.

"He told the clerk to open the store back up to get the money," Gaddis said. "As the clerk was attempting to unlock the front door, the perpetrator turned his head for a moment and at that point the clerk fled and the suspect fled also in the opposite direction."

Gaddis said the suspect ran toward the post office behind the Waffle House on Pentee Drive. He said K-9 units were called to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful.
