A Gainesville man was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 985 South while attempting to cross the road between exits 20 and 22 before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in Gainesville, according to authorities.

Luis Essai Salazar, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. State patrol said Salazar was attempting to cross the roadway from the median to the shoulder.

Brandy Tanner, 40, of Gainesville, was traveling southbound on I-985 in a 2001 Ford Taurus and struck Salazar, according to state patrol.

“Neither Tanner nor her two passengers were injured,” state patrol said in a news release.

The agency said any charges are pending further investigation.
