Christopher Sams was headed east on Ga. 53 near War Hill Park Road Sunday afternoon when a Mitsubishi Montero crossed the center line and hit the Buick LeSabre in which Sams, his wife, Tonya, and their child were riding.
The Montero, driven by a 39-year-old Gainesville woman, flipped as a result of the head-on collision, injuring all of its passengers.
Three of the six people injured in the accident were younger than 12.
Two were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and one to North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell.
The other three were transferred to Emory Johns Creek Hospital, according to Patrol Operator King in Cumming.
Sams, who was trapped in his vehicle, was dead when the Georgia State Patrol arrived.
The accident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon. It shut down eastbound traffic on Ga. 53 until well after 10 p.m.
Trooper Hinson at the Georgia State Patrol Post in Cumming said the patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team will investigate the fatal accident. No charges have been filed.
The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigates prosecutable fatalities.
The team, based in Calhoun, will visit the site of the collision today, mapping the events of Sunday’s collision, said Cpl. James Robillard, assistant leader of the team.
