A day of rain wasn’t enough to stop visitors from enjoying the sounds of freedom Friday night as the Northwinds Symphonic Band’s annual Patriotic Pops concert.
The yearly July Fourth holiday concert was originally scheduled to be held at The Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center, but was moved indoors to the First Baptist Church in Gainesville by a day of storms and threatening weather.
The change of venue didn’t dampen the music or the mood of those who gathered to ring in the holiday with an array or patriotic tunes. Led by Mercer Crook, the band’s roster includes active and retired band directors, music teachers, college students and professional musicians.
