A man was shot and injured during a fight overnight Sunday at Lanier Islands, and authorities are working to identify three suspects in the incident.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other law enforcement agencies responded to lake houses at the Islands at 12:45 a.m. Sunday and found Malik Davis, 23, of Union City, with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he is in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit following emergency surgery.

The Sheriff’s Office reported friends from metro Atlanta had rented a lake house to celebrate a birthday. Three men showed up uninvited and an argument turned into a fight. Witnesses said Davis tried to break up the fight and shots were fired, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Hall deputies, SWAT team members along with members of the Flowery Branch Police Department, Department of Natural Resources and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

A representative from Lake Lanier Islands declined to comment.

The sheriff’s office had no updates Monday afternoon.

“Investigators are still working diligently with witnesses to gain more information,” wrote Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes in an email.

Investigators are trying to identify the suspects with help from Lanier Islands security and staff.
