A 51-year-old Cumming man drowned while wade fishing in Lake Lanier, south of Brown's Bridge in Hall County.

William G. Doster Jr. was at the lake with his wife and grandson at the time, said Melissa Cummings, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

He was about waist deep in Flat Creek when he went underwater and didn't resurface, she said.

Authorities received the call at 8:37 a.m. They found his body at 8:45 a.m. in about 6 to 8 feet of water, Cummings said.

She added that officials don't know why he suddenly slipped under the water.

Cummings also isn't sure where the grandson and wife were at the time, but they were "near enough that they saw him go under."
