The Georgia Department of Transportation will have to close lanes on Interstate 985 overnight next week in order to set beams for the Atlanta Highway Bridge.
Crews will work from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday if weather permits and set 24 beams into place over the interstate, said DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry. The work schedule will close these lanes on the following nights:
Monday: I-985 North, closing inside lane
Tuesday: I-985 South, closing inside lane
Wednesday: I-985 South, closing inside lane
In addition, traffic may be stopped for a few minutes at a time each night while beams are lifted over the interstate and set into place, McMurry explained.
If it rains Monday, work will begin Tuesday night instead, he said.
In addition, the DOT will be closing one lane on Ga. 400 in Forsyth County Monday and Tuesday to do bridge work as well. Monday, work will close the outside lane on Ga. 400 northbound from 9:30 a.m. to lunchtime, then move over to southbound until 3 p.m. On Tuesday, work will close the right-hand lane on the southbound side from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
