Some economic signs are encouraging, such as a surging stock market and industry expansion, but the area’s housing market is still struggling to make a comeback in the wake of the nation’s worst downturn since the Great Depression. The Gainesville-Hall County average sales price in the second quarter, or April-June, was $120,646, the lowest second-quarter number since 2008, when the average was $218,527, according to Georgia Multiple Listing Service numbers, Numbers aren’t available yet for the third quarter, which ended Sept. 30.
