A Hall County sheriff's deputy was killed in an accident on Interstate 985 Wednesday night and a motorist was killed earlier Wednesday when his vehicle went down an embankment in Lumpkin County and hit a tree.
About 7:30 p.m., deputy Anthony Seda, 21, of Gainesville, was driving his personal motorcycle at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes of the interstate near Ga. 53, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Seda, who was off-duty, lost control on a curve and traveled into the median before he was ejected and struck a guardrail fence, GSP reported.
The deputy has been with the sheriff's office about a year and was assigned to the Jail Division, said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the sheriff's office. Seda was scheduled to transfer next week to the Uniform Patrol Division.
In Lumpkin County, David Alan Larson, 60, of McCaysville, was killed after he lost control of his northbound vehicle on a curve of Ga. 9 at Brandywine Road about 4:45 p.m., said Deputy Lumpkin County Coroner Ronald Fortner.
Larson's vehicle went down an embankment, struck a tree and overturned, Forner said.
