A Flowery Branch man accused of accepting payment for tree removal work without finishing the job has been arrested in Hall County.

Andrew Mosley, 22, was wanted for 14 counts of theft by conversion, one of them being a felony-level charge, by Gwinnett County Police.

He was arrested Thursday and released later the same day.

Investigators began with the case Dec. 1 on Mosley operating under the names B&M Tree Services, Mosley Tree Service and United Tree Service.

“After receiving half or full payment, Mosley would not complete any of the jobs or he would complete only half of the jobs,” Cpl. Deon Washington wrote in a news release. “Mosley stole money from 14 separate victims, including several elderly victims in their mid-70s and early 80s.”

The cases involve roughly $9,000 in money paid for the jobs, and police “highly anticipate” additional victims.

Police advise people looking to avoid scammers to use the secretary of state’s website to check on the business.

“You should also ask the owner of a tree removal service if the company is bonded and insured and request to see proof of the insurance,” Washington wrote. “Also make sure that you get a contractual agreement that spells out exactly what work is going to be performed and for what cost.”
