Gainesville man shot to death in vehicle
Authorities say a homicide was reported early Monday out front of this home on Barnes Drive east of Gainesville.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators are working to identify who shot a man to death inside a vehicle early Monday morning.

Cornelius Gordon, 24, of Gainesville was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville after being taken to the hospital by friends, according to a statement released by Scott Ware, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

Ware said Gordon was shot in the head while sitting in a Toyota Camry just before 2 a.m. Monday at 2241 Barnes Drive, which is off Floyd Road east of Gainesville.

Gordon did not live at the residence, according to Ware, who added there was a party at the mobile home at the time of the shooting and many of the people there fled the scene after the shooting.

Investigators also went to nearby Barnes Trailer Park, where it was reported that some of the people at the party fled, according to Ware.

Steve Jackson, who said he has lived on Barnes Drive for more than 40 years, said he didn’t know the victim but has seen many people at the residence.

“Most of them that hang up there be young kids,” he said.
