Prosthetist Kevin Carroll and other local prosthetics experts are holding a free patient education clinic for lower limb amputees.

The event will be at Hanger Clinic, 425 Spring St. SE, Suite 100 in Gainesville, starting at 9 a.m. Dec. 6 and lasting most of the day. It is one of about 20 such clinics Carroll does throughout the year.

Carroll will provide free evaluations of patients that day, and if patients aren’t available, they can receive a free evaluation on a later date.

To schedule a free appointment with Carroll on Dec. 6, call 770-534-8276.

Carroll has more than 35 years of experience as a practicing prosthetist, researcher and educator. He is the vice president of prosthetics for Hanger Clinic.

He and Hanger colleague Dan Strzempka developed a prosthetic tail for a dolphin named Winter, which became the basis for 2011 movie “Dolphin Tale.”

Carroll travels nationally and internationally presenting scientific symposiums and managing clinics for difficult prosthetic cases. He “has been at the forefront of many prosthetic breakthroughs,” according to a press release.
