While dozens of shoppers officially welcomed a new Target to Flowery Branch Sunday afternoon, one woman expressed her excitement to store manager Larry Shaw.

"Welcome to the neighborhood, y’all," she said.

The new 135,000-square-foot store held its grand opening Sunday and is the third store to open in Stonebridge Village, a new shopping center located off Interstate 985. Kohl’s and Home Depot opened in November.

The new Target features a pharmacy, a Starbucks and a Pizza Hut that serves breakfast. The Starbucks, which is the only one in the immediate area, has been quite popular.

"Starbucks has been a hit," Shaw said. "These (eateries) are two things that are cool about us."

The store is not exactly a Super Target, but it does have an expanded frozen food and dairy section and has a bigger grocery section than most other Targets, Shaw said.

And that’s what Target shopper Sharon Petrey said she likes about the store: She can stock her kitchen and her closet .

"If you want to look at shoes, you can look at shoes, but if you need to buy dinner you can buy dinner," Petrey said.

The store also has a seasonal section, which is currently filled with springtime supplies and everything one might need to decorate the lawn.

"So if you need a patio set ..." Shaw said.

"Or you need to take a break while shopping," finished Von Cowart, Target’s human resources director. "We’re trying to be the place for one-stop shopping."

Lori Bell and her husband perused the houseware aisles, another one of the store’s more popular areas, Sunday afternoon.

It was Lori Bell’s second trip to the store this week.

The two were married six months ago, and shopped at Target to get lamps and other things to decorate their new home. To Lori Bell, the Flowery Branch Target has something more than a Starbucks on the Gainesville Target.

"I like that it’s close by," the Braselton resident said.

The South Hall store has 168 employees, most of which come from Hall County and a few from Gwinnett County, Shaw said.

The store actually opened on Tuesday in a "soft open," which helped the employees get ready for the grand opening Sunday.

The Flowery Branch location is the second Target store in Hall County. There are 52 Target stores across Georgia and 1,613 in the United States, said Steve Linders, a spokesman for Target. The first Target store opened in Roseville, Minn., in 1962.
