The apparent low bidder of the project is World Fiber Technologies out of Alpharetta, which submitted a bid of $1,849,573.44, according to Teri Pope, DOT spokeswoman.

The other bids submitted were from College Park-based B&J Paving for $1,896,204.54 and Forest Park-based R.J. Haynie and Associates Inc. for $1,973,510.70.

The next step is for the DOT’s contracts administrations division to carefully go through the bids, a process which usually takes about three to four weeks, but could take a bit longer due to the holiday, Pope said.

By the end of the year, the DOT should be able to make a decision to take one of three actions on the bids — awarding, deferring or denying the bids and rebidding the project, Pope said.

The DOT would be able to announce a start date for the project at the time the bid is awarded.

Once the bid is awarded, it typically is another three to four months before the chosen company can begin work, Pope said.

The project involves intersections along Ga. 369 from McEver Road to Barn Street.

The focus of the project is to modernize traffic signals — and improve timing — at those intersections, as well as improve pedestrian safety.

Pope said the project will involve some lane closures for painting pedestrian crosswalks, but those will be minimal.
