A dd’s Discounts clothing store is proposed in Gainesville’s Towne Center shopping center off Browns Bridge Road and Pearl Nix Parkway, Gainesville officials said.
The store would take the place of Farmers Home Furniture, which was in the shopping center for 24 years before moving to 2275 Browns Bridge Road.
Towne Center, which features long time anchor Big Lots, is at 1500 Browns Bridge Road and also is the site of a future Golden Corral restaurant.
“Renovation plans have been submitted” for the new store, said Joe Davidson, Gainesville building official. “The first submittal was from the owner of the building to do a portion of the interior work.”
The clothing store, which is part of the California-based Ross Dress for Less chain, also has submitted plans for interior work, but “the only permit we have issued to date is for landlord work on the space,” Davidson said.
“The tenant work has still not been permitted,” he added.
The outside of the 23,000-square-foot store, which sits next to Big Lots, has been repainted.
Officials with dd’s Discounts, which has stores in metro Atlanta, and Ross could not be reached for comment. Ross has stores in Gainesville and Flowery Branch.
Like Ross, while dd’s Discounts is mostly about fashion, its stores also sell home decor and home improvement items.
