Newsmakers in business: Strayhorn chosen as Georgias Victim Advocate of the Year

Katie Strayhorn has been named the District Attorney’s Victim Advocate of the Year for Georgia.

Strayhorn, director of victim services for the Dawson County District Attorney’s Office, received the award at the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia’s Victim-Witness Advocate’s annual conference held at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain in late April.

Strayhorn received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Jacksonville State University in 1996 and has been a certified forensic interviewer of children since 2006. She served as chairwoman of Georgia’s Sexual Offender Registration Review Board for two terms. 

She has been a victim advocate for 18 years, providing thousands of victims services during that time.
