U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, will chair a congressional caucus that will oversee the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which owns Lake Lanier.
Collins founded the Congressional Army Corps of Engineers Reform Caucus in 2013. The caucus will review Corps operations and look at ways the Corps can operate more efficiently.
“On issues ranging from efficiency and management of reservoirs, lease agreements on Corps properties, and relationships with states and local stakeholders, Congress has a role to play in ensuring the Corps is operating as intended and making reforms where necessary,” Collins said in a statement.
The Corps also operates several parks and boat ramps in Hall County, and Lake Lanier is included in the Corps’ Mobile district.
