Internet service for Charter Communications customers in the Gainesville area could be out for about six hours overnight as the company repairs fiber-optic cables.
"It looks like it's going to be impacting a good portion of Gainesville," said Patrick Jenne of Charter. "It looks like it's impacting at least 26 (fiber-optic) customers, and then you have multiple residential ones as well."
Jenne said 144 individual fibers would need to be respliced because the cables had frozen over.
"Ice harms fiber," he said.
The repairs are expected to start at midnight and be finished by 6 a.m.
