Frost honored as top volunteer by Georgia Mountains YMCA

The Georgia Mountains YMCA named board chairman Randall Frost as Volunteer of the Year at the center’s recent "Heroes Dinner," an annual event created to honor corporate and individual benefactors, partners and community supporters.

Frost, the managing partner and an attorney at Stewart, Melvin & Frost in Gainesville, is known for his work in many community organizations in addition to the YMCA, including the Boys and Girls Club of Gainesville and the Salvation Army.

The Georgia Mountains YMCA headquarters, named for area business leader Jim Walters, is located on Ga. 365 north of Gainesville. Membership has reached 12,000 members, after a successful launch last year.

Posea named clinical nursing director at Gainesville hospital

Karen Posea, RN, MSN, has been named clinical nursing director of medical and surgical services at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Posea will oversee five medical and surgical nursing units between the main hospital campus on Spring Street and the Lanier Park campus on White Sulphur Road.

Posea comes to the hospital from Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, N.C., where she served as the nursing director of Medical Services. Previously, she has worked at Gwinnett Medical Center, Emory Health Care and Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

Posea earned her Bachelor Of Science in nursing from Florida International University in Miami in 1987 and her Master of Science in nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2002.

"I’ve always seen NGMC as a growing, very progressive hospital system," Posea said. "I have always wanted to work here, and I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity. I want to help improve the health of the community."

Posea and her husband, Frank, have three daughters.

Youngblood, Bohm joins Bates, Carter & Co. accounting firm

Melissa Youngblood and Jessica Bohm have joined the staff of Bates, Carter & Co., a Gainesville accounting firm.

Youngblood is a senior accountant in the commercial audit department. She is a graduate of Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a master’s degree in accountancy. Melissa earned her certified public accounting license in the state of Georgia in 2006. She joins Bates, Carter & Co. with almost five years of experience in public accounting.

Bohm participated in the internship program at Bates, Carter & Co. from January thru April 2008 and now joins the company as a staff accountant in the tax department. She is a 2008 graduate of Brenau University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting.

The Longstreet Clinic announces 2008-09 corporate leadership

The Longstreet Clinic, a multispecialty medical group, has announced its corporate leadership for 2008-09.

Dr. Eugene Cindea, a pediatrician at The Longstreet Clinic since 1996, will serve as president and governing board chairman.

Vice presidents and governing board members are Dr. Marti Gibbs, who practices family medicine, and Dr. R. Philip Marler, an internist and founding member of the clinic. Other board members include Dr. Robert Brett Barger, who practices obstetrics and gynecology, and Dr. Donald R. Willers, an orthopedist.

Serving as secretary-treasurer is operations management board chairman Dr. Andy M. Jaffal, an internist.

Dr. Holmes B. Marchman, physiatrist and founding shareholder, will serve as UM/QA committee chairman and medical director for the clinic.

Amelia L. "Mimi" Collins continues as the clinic’s chief executive officer.
