A body was found in Lake Lanier just off shore at Lanier Point Park on Saturday afternoon, according to Gainesville police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Holbrook.
Identification had not been made Saturday evening, but police confirmed it was the body of a female, which has been sent to the crime lab for autopsy.
Friday, authorities exhausted ground and water searches at Lanier Point Park for Lizeth Ruby Ruiz, a Gainesville woman who has been missing since May 18.
“We have completed our investigative search of the area,” Holbrook said Friday.
Authorities are “focusing our efforts on the investigation (of her disappearance) at this time,” he said.
Police scoured the area Friday, including with K-9 teams, but ended the search with “nothing new to report,” Holbrook said.
Ruiz, 23, was last seen at the park at 1579 Lee Waldrip Drive, which is off Lake Lanier west of Dawsonville Highway.
She had been with friends at the 90-acre park when she got separated from the group, authorities have said.
