Sunday crash on US 129 sent passenger to hospital, driver charged

One person was seriously injured in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer Sunday evening in Talmo a mile inside the Hall County line.

Irma Valle, 52, of Everson, Washington, was headed south on U.S. 129 in a 2000 GMC Sierra, turning left onto Blackstock Road, according to a news release from Cpl. Major Patterson with the Georgia State Patrol.

A 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, driven by Harvey Mays, 64, of Taylorsville, North Carolina, was traveling north.

As Valle was turning onto Blackstock Road, the two vehicles collided in the northbound lane, causing the tractor trailer to travel off the roadway and into a ditch.

Valle received minor injuries and was not treated, but the passenger in the car, Julian Villafuerte, 49, of Lavonia, Georgia, was seriously injured and taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Though serious, Patterson said they were not life-threatening.

Mays was not injured.

Valle was charged with failure to yield while turning left, according to the release.
