Three people were injured in an accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 985 northbound when the SUV they were in overturned.

The 2:53 p.m. accident was at Mile Marker 8 near Friendship Road, said Georgia State Patrol dispatcher Dean Wood.

A woman in serious condition was taken by rescue helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, said Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell.

A teenager and a child about 16 months old were transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and their conditions weren't available, he added.

GSP Trooper 1st Class Jordan Stamey said the SUV flipped after its brakes locked and the driver overcorrected her steering.

"I know what happened. I just don't know why it happened," he said.

I-985 was closed to traffic for about an hour, Kimbrell said.
